1. THE BASICS
HERE'S ALL THE INFO:
THE SPACE
Studio Alora is a 120 square meter natural light studio space located in Parktown North. We host photo and video shoots, as well as workshops and certain small scale events within our space.
It features one full opaque plexiglass wall, which creates the most beautiful diffused light.
You will have sole use of the studio space during your booked time.
DECOR REVAMP
We regularly update our studio space, and update this blog post at the same time - so that the images and videos in this post reflect the most recent changes to the space. All props, decor and furniture shown in these photos should be available during your booking (unless it's maybe in for repairs or similar). If there's something specific you'd definitely like during your booking, please chat to us on email during your booking process.

In Oct 2024, we did a big decor revamp at Alora to showcase the exciting rebranding of the studio. All images contained in this blog post show the most recent decor.

2. WHAT'S INCLUDED
THE FURNITURE
Our studio comes with a selection of lifestyle furniture, designed to elevate your booking - you can utilise these in your shoots or events.
You will have access to all of the below furniture items (included in your booking fee):
- make-up station
- clothing rail
- long length mirror
- changing room/bathroom
- kitchen island, counter
- a variety of plants
- wooden bench
- variety of chairs, incl pink wingback chair & two seater grey couch
- wooden trestle table
- 2 x plastic trestle tables
You're welcome to move these items around as need be, please lift the furniture up before moving so as not to drag it on the floor and please do return them to their original positions before the end of your time.
Just FYI: you are more than welcome to bring your own furniture, props or decor along to your session!
THE KITCHEN
Welcome to our mini kitchenette area!
This area has textured paint, and beautiful custom made wooden floating kitchen island.
The kitchen is stocked with the following:
4 dinner plates
4 bowls
4 side plates
8 mugs
4 water glasses
6 champagne glasses
6 wine glasses
cutlery for 6 people
The kitchen does have a microwave. Please note that the fridge is stocked with beverages which are available for purchase. You may not bring in your own outside beverages.
PREP AREA
We have a small prep area set up for you - designed to make your booking streamlined and efficient!

We now have two portable pop-up change rooms, which you're more than welcome to utilise for your booking. They're great for easy changes throughout a shoot, or for trying on clothes during a clothing pop-up sale!
Please do note that the space is ONE BIG ROOM - there is no separate green room or prep/client room. However with 120 square meters to play with, there's lots of space to prep, create and play! These additional items are INCLUDED in your booking fee, should you like to use them:
- 3 x fold-out trestle tables
- 5 x fold-out chairs
- white or black table cloths
PAINTED WALLS & TEXTURES:
THE BIG GREY WALL
There is also a giant grey wall at the one end of the studio. This is great for a more minimalist, clean feel, or for setting up your own styled areas or your own backdrops.
This wall is a light grey, not white. It will photograph at slightly different shades, at different times of day, and under different camera settings.
OUTDOOR AREA
You are welcome to use the outdoor area directly outside our studio space.
Please do note the studio is part of a multi-use office space. Please be considerate to our neighbours, and do not shoot directly outside the other offices, especially during the week. Our assistant will be there during your booking to help guide you to the allocated shoot spots.
Please do note that smoking is only allowed in the parking lot, by the main gate.
THE LIGHT
As a natural light studio, we are passionate about how glorious the light inside our space is - we LOVE it!
The studio attracts beautiful natural light all throughout the day, with the plexiglass doors acting as diffusers. You can shoot throughout the day with no concern of harsh, bright or dark low light.
Please note that our studio DOES NOT come with any studio lights or gear.
You are welcome to bring your own, or rent from Glow Hire.
ASSISTANCE
You will meet one of our amazing studio assistants on the day of your booking - she'll be there to check you in, and make fab delish cappuccinos throughout your day!
(These drinks and snacks are available for purchase on the day via card payment - we are a cashless studio)
PARKING
We can fit about 4-5 small cars inside our parking bays. We do suggest that if you have more attendees than that, that you uber/carpool.
Also, chat to us about hiring our lovely security guy to watch the cars outside.
Alora is a bespoke photographic studio,
and as such we cannot allow the following on the premises:
braais/barbecues/fires
pets/animals
food trucks
jumping castles
please do kindly treat our space with respect.
3. WHAT'S NOT INCLUDED
THE ADD-ONS
We love offering MORE! So we've created a fun styling section, packed with optional add-ons for you to use during your booking.
Our styling add-ons are currently charged for all of the below items. Please ask for the prices via email or in studio.
Please chat to us before your booking to check on the current colour of the painted backdrops (we'll be updating these every few months), and to see what our styling section currently contains.
- 1 x styling cupboard, packed with props in pinks, brass, creams and browns
- 1 x set of flat lay styling boards (six boards, with a variety of fab textures and tones)
- 1 x set of arched & square backdrops (these are painted fresh colour and prints every few months)
- 1 x inflatable queen sized bed and white linen
These items are OPTIONAL add-ons, you are more than welcome to bring along your own props and decor for your session.
BACKDROPS, SCREENS AND STYLING BOARDS:
Yes - we now have backdrop stands and rolls at the studio too!
Please note there is an ADDITIONAL fee charged for the rental of our backdrop stands and rolls.
We currently have the following paper backdrops:
- 1 x Olive Green (full width)
- 1 x White (full width)
- 1 x Dark Blue (half width)
- 1 x Light Grey (half width)
- 1 x Oyster (half width)
STYLING CUPBOARD AND PROPS:
THE BED:
1 x inflatable queen sized bed
Please let us know ahead of time should you like to use the bed, as it takes 20 minutes to inflate, so our team will start this before you arrive.
DRESSES
We have a beautiful selection of dresses for hire. Please bring your own bodice with to where underneath the dresses. These are additional to hire, please contact us for the price.
COFFEE & TEAS
As another fun add-on, we have coffee, tea, cooldrinks and waters available for purchase via card payment during your booking. This includes delicious cappuccinos!
The kitchen does have a microwave. Please note that the fridge is stocked with beverages which are available for purchase. You may not bring in your own outside beverages.
SNACKS
We know shoots are hungry-work, so have recently added a small snack bar to our space, yay!
You are however more than welcome to bring in your own catering or snacks for your shoot.

4. EVENTS AT ALORA
We do host certain small scale events at Alora - particularly workshops, wellness classes, pop-ups and some intimate gatherings. Email us to find out if we can accommodate your event.
WHAT WE HAVE
The studio is well stocked for events up to 20 people - including crockery, cutlery and glassware.
Should you like to host an event or workshop in our space, please do feel free to bring in any other catering, bar, tablecloths, cutlery and crockery requirements.
The kitchen does not have a stove or hotplates, please feel free to bring your own.
WHAT WE CAN ORGANISE FOR YOU
Please contact us should you like us to organise any of these additional services for you:
- catering
- event photography
- head shot photos for your guests
We will add a small admin fee onto your quotation, in order to arrange these add-ons.

OUR CALENDAR
We want to make it as easy for you as possible to plan your shoot - so we've popped our studio's calendar up online - here it is.
Please note that standard rates are charged from Monday-Sunday 8am-6pm for lifestyle photographic sessions of no more than 15 people. Please contact us for a custom quote for a session outside of those hours or specifications.
OVERTIME
Your booking time includes your set up and pack up time. Early arrivals wont be permitted onto the premises. Overtime can be arranged, but only if there isn't another booking after yours. We will charge R700 per 30 minutes of time spent over your booked time AND MUST BE PAID IN-PERSON, IN- STUDIO, BEFORE YOU VACATE THE PREMISES.
